How to Reduce Stress During Moving Week

Posted on April 10, 2024April 10, 2024 by Linda Barbara

Moving is often seen as a stressful experience, with surveys indicating that 47% of households feel increased stress during the process, finding it hectic at times. While eliminating all stress may not be feasible, there are numerous steps you can take to minimize chaos and ensure a smoother transition. Whether you’re relocating across town or across the country, early planning is essential. Here are some strategies to make the moving process easier as the big day approaches:

Start by creating a moving timeline checklist. With countless tasks involved in relocation, from transferring utilities to arranging pet or babysitting services, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed if left until the last minute. A checklist helps prioritize tasks and ensures nothing is overlooked.

Thankfully, there are various online templates and tools available to assist you in creating a checklist. You may also consider consulting the moving company you’ve hired, as they often provide helpful guidelines and professional services such as packing, unpacking, and storage solutions tailored to your needs.

In addition to starting early and seeking professional support, consider compiling a home inventory sheet. Take inventory of your possessions room by room, noting any items you wish to donate, sell, or recycle to reduce the workload. Remember, the fewer items you have to pack, the quicker the unpacking process will be. Keep track of any household items requiring special handling, which can be useful information for the moving team.

As moving day approaches, aim to consume perishable food items to minimize waste and reduce packing or shopping needs. Empty the kitchen cabinets, pack items in advance, and defrost the freezer if necessary. Avoid leaving these tasks until the last minute to save time and stress.

Finally, embrace the adventure of moving to a new home and focus on the positive aspects of the transition.
